Abstract:
Some simple chemical systems of importance to the atmospheres of the Jovian planets and their moons, namely Titan have been investigated. With Titan chemistry focused on reactions .of N containing molecules, the kinetics and H atom channel yields for· reactions of CN radicals with C2H2, C2H4, C3H6, iso-C4Hs and trans-2-C4Hs at both 195 K and 298 K. have been determined. A potential energy surface for the CN + C3H6 reaction, constructed by David Glowacki, identifies a number of reaction· channels leading to either H, CH3 or HCN elimination following the formation of initial addition complexes. Results from the potential energy surface calculations have been used to run master equation calculations and excellent agreement is obtained between the experime'ntal 298 K H atom yields and the results of the master equation'calcul
