Abstract:
This thesis is divided into two parts, both describing research associated with magnetically suspended passenger carrying vehicles. The first part extends the app1ication of magnetic suspension to other areas with new developments, not necessarily of use in transportation in their present form, providing many alternative solutions to the problem of contact less suspension. The second part describes the development of a system of longitudinal control of vehicles which, although developed specifically for magnetically suspended vehicles, may be used for any form of guided transportation.
