Abstract:
The quality of life in the Caribbean has constantly been characterized by structured poverty and dependence, and a marked degree of cultural alienation. Any attempt to engage in action for social improvement must therefore be determined by the struggle for economic and cultural liberation. Some Caribbean Churches have come together in the Caribbean Conference of Churches (CCC) - to promote proper growth and full human development. Between 1971 and 1977 a significant amount of developmental activity has been undertaken by the CCC, which, like other agencies in the Third World, has interpreted "development" to mean the pursuit of economic growth, social justice, and self-reliance towards the humanization and liberation of Caribbean people.
