The contents of this thesis fall into two parts. Part I contains details of a study of iron absorption in relation to copper deficiency using an isolated vascularly and lumenally perfused rat intestinal preparation. Details of the surgical procedure as well as observations concerning the viability of the preparations are also given. Part II contains details of a study of zinc absorption in vivo. By monitoring the decline in whole body 65Zn following a single dose of this gamma emitter, information concerning the kinetics of zinc absorption and the homeostatic control of zinc was obtained. Estimations of zinc metallothionein in the intestinal tissue were also made.
